Welcome to Dylan's Nursery! I post pictures from fun times spent and crafts created here, but I thought it was time to give a detailed little walk through of our favorite space. This room for our baby boy has been a joy to build piece by piece, and the three of us couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
It all started with the wall color. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do a bright and cheery color - the space needed to be happy and exciting for our bouncing baby on the way. We didn't find out the gender of our baby when I was pregnant. It was the most amazing, exciting choice, and it pushed us to stay creative when it came to gender neutral choices. When I found this color I fell in love! The mix of teal and robin's egg blue seemed perfect. It was the cheerful color I had searched for, but it still managed to give a soothing feeling to the room. Once the walls were painted, we were set. From there I found things I loved for the room one item at a time.
We spend so much time rolling around, reading, laughing and cuddling in the nursery and as my Grandma says, "it just plain feels good to be in there!" Each corner has a memory, from excitedly shopping with Ryan when I was pregnant, to crafted projects with family members, and first birthday presents. There are still a few blank spots that I like to leave as my future canvas - begging for me to fill when I am feeling crafty...I'll be sure to share when I add to the room!
Inspiration: The color. It set the stage for what the room could eventually be. I wanted a space that was whimsical and playful, but sweet and calming at the same time.
Favorite: The book slings are my favorite to look at, and it brings me such joy to see Dylan get excited to read books. The chair is my favorite to use, it was a birthday gift from my husband, and Dylan and I have spent countless hours rocking, singing and nursing in it.
Surprises: While I was pregnant I found and adorable tutorial for a embroidery hoops project. It was as simple as sandwiching favorite fabrics in between to make a colorful display. I loved the way it turned out and we put them about the changing table. You’ll notice they are gone now! Note: Babies will pull everything down that they can get their hands on!
DIYs: My favorite bits of the room are the ones that have been handmade. Items made by myself and loved ones: Fabric book slings{Grandma Smith}, the name/frames above his bed{Frames painted by Ryan}{letters by Grandpa Smith}, Hand prints {Myself when I was a kiddo}, owl embroidery {Ryan when he was a kiddo}, Cardboard Owl {Sirikit} blue knitted baby blanket{Great Aunt Polly}, the wrapped embroidery hoops{Myself}, Baby's First Year album {Sarah}, paint chip mobile (not pictured){Ryan & Myself}.
Indulgence: The crib. Ryan and I wanted something simple but beautiful, and we knew we wanted it to last throughout the years with our future babies as our family grows. It is also a 3/1 convertible crib, so by the time it is done we will most definitely have gotten our money’s worth.
Advice: Take it slow! Don’t worry about having a perfectly matching and put together nursery by the time your bundle of joy arrives. If you add pieces that you find and love along the way, it will feel more personal and loving. Also, try your hand at a few easy crafts – there are loads of awesome ideas out there.

The whole room is fantastic! I love everything, from the owl accents to the wall color to the picture arrangements to the book holders. You definitely have a designer's eye!
